TOITU TE MOANA, TOITU TE TANGATA

SUSTAINABILITY OF THE SEA. SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PEOPLE.

Marine Biotechnology is a vital and rapidly growing part of New Zealand and Australia’s national marine science industry sectors. It is tipped to contribute significantly and exponentially to a growing international marine economy worth more than $US200b, with the underpinning biotechnology market itself growing to $US6b in the next 5 years.

Marine biotechnology is fast becoming recognised as providing the innovative drive for bioproduct breakthroughs across a range of sectors including biomedicinal, agrichemical and in the aquaculture industry.  Such a vital industry requires a strong focus on and commitment to the further development of sustainable practices. Growing our knowledge and leveraging innovation to nurture the untapped wealth of the marine environment for our future, is our core focus.

Sharing knowledge to build wealth

This convention will provide a unique opportunity for delegates, speakers and sponsors to meet and share knowledge on the latest science and industry updates relating to Marine Biotechnology. It will also be an opportunity to network, build new connections, develop stronger collaborative partnerships and raise the profile of core organisations and individuals who are playing a pivotal role in this industry sector.

Two central themes form the basis of this convention:

•    Environmental Remediation – novel marine biotechnologies to enhance environmental resilience
•    Marine Biotechnology – new marine resource research and development for the blue economy with a particular focus on agricultural and aquacultural applications.
